It’s a sad thing the way we can so easily be made into objects. Inhumane actually. Why is it that money and power are the criteria for valuing one human over another?
It definitely seems like they pick on the underpriviledged kids more that are desperate for money and change. Eager to leave home in hopes of a better life. Yes, when you enlist you are considered government property unfortunately.
I hate the way people fast talk someone into signing up for a career and they have no clue what they're signing up for. You might have a good job but its not a fucking glamorous life for everyone. 15 years old are in no position to be making such decisions like that. Hell, 18 year old need to rethink that! But we all fall trap to the "you're an adult and you can make your own decisions" conversations. True, but its a life changing experience.
Bingo, reading Amiri Baraka's autobiography and he's describing his experience flunking out of school and abruptly joining the air force. And it's sad to hear him describe how him and all of his peers that joined had a moment where they realized, they made an irreversible decision without truly thinking about it. Everything is about what you make of it at the end of the day, but how much longer can we continue to be expected to turn shit to sugar. That's my dilemma.
Exactly. Its the same persuasion we've been hearing for decades and they throw plenty of sugar on that shit. The military isn't for everbody but they need bodies and they want yes men. No backtalk or resisting. Thinking they can mold the weakest or roughest people into being outstanding individuals. In exchange for your life, we'll give you more money...and hope that you make it through alive.
The only difference from past wars and the wars today is time. Same agenda and same problems.
When I was in the military, we were considered government property. That never sat right with me.

Good question.
